Locks Of Love

Well today was the day. Since my Uncle Mark passed away last year I have been growing my hair out to donate in his honor to locks of love. For several years he worked on growing his hair out to donate but succumbed to lung cancer before he was able to. This is also a bucket list item of mine!

If your not familiar with Locks Of Love you should check out their website!
http://www.locksoflove.org/

Donated hair is evaluated for its usefulness according to the following guidelines:

The donated hair must be at least 10 inches (preferably 12") in length

It must be bundled in a pony tail or braid

Hair must be free of bleach.

Colored hair and permed is acceptable.

The hair must be clean and dry, placed in a plastic bag, and mailed in a padded envelope to:

Locks of Love
234 Southern Blvd.
West Palm Beach, FL 33405

A full 12 inches for locks of love!

Sarah has always wanted to do this!

TA DA!

Brookie was able to shape me up, I will post a real after pic tonight!

Wow it's been 3 months!

I can't believe it's been three months since I have blogged. Lot's have been going on so I am working on several posts that I will put up over the next several days.

See ya soon!

Golden Girl Roller Coaster

Golden Girl Rue McClanahan has suffered what her rep terms a "minor" stroke while recovering from heart bypass surgery.

The erstwhile Blanche Devereaux had her heart operation in November. The Emmy winner then spent two weeks in the ICU after doctors successfully removed the blood clot in her brain. Her recovery is slow but steady, with her speech and movement on the right side of her body affected.

McClanahan, 75, is undergoing physical therapy but should be out of the hospital by the end of the month, according to her rep.

With the death of Bea Arthur last year, McClanahan and Betty White are the last surviving stars of the hugely popular former NBC sitcom.

Let's hope this Golden Girl is back in the pink as soon as possible.

Betty White Lifetime Achievement Salute - It's about damn time!

Betty White, who will be honored at Saturday's Screen Actors Guild Awards with a lifetime achievement salute, seems to just get better with age.

Once described by the Wall Street Journal as "television's longest-working actress," the 88-year-old White had her first starring sitcom role in 1953's Life With Elizabeth.

For many years after that you might say she was best known not so much as an actress but as herself, Betty White – pretty, pert, charming – on talk shows and game shows. It was only in middle age that she landed her two most famous roles, both of which confirmed her as a funny, unusually nimble actress who could quicken the chemistry of any sitcom ensemble.

On The Mary Tyler Moore Show she played TV personality Sue Ann Nivens, aka "The Happy Homemaker," a woman as sweet as angel cake on the outside and, under the surface, much more diabolical. Then came The Golden Girls, a sitcom that defied conventional programming wisdom – it was about a bunch of old broads – in which she played naive Rose Nylund.

These days she's enjoying a glorious late career with small roles as playfully sharp old ladies and (basically the same thing) cameos as herself.

5 of Her Memorable Roles
• Password: For nearly 20 years, White and her husband, Allen Ludden, were familiar, urbane visitors to America's living rooms – especially when he hosted the game show Password and she appeared as his gracious guest player. Ludden died in 1981, and she never remarried. Watch a clip here.

• The Mary Tyler Moore Show: According to White, the character of Sue Ann Nivens was imagined as a Betty White "type," only nasty. (White's a longtime friend of Moore.) She went on to win two Emmys for the part, which she played from 1973 to 1977. Watch a clip here.

• The Golden Girls: For the NBC hit, which ran from 1985 to 1992, White basically inverted Sue Ann, going from a schemer to the profoundly, sometimes touchingly silly Rose. Another Emmy (she's won a total of six). Watch a clip here.

• Ugly Betty: White, as herself, runs afoul of Wilhelmina Slater (Vanessa Williams) – a woman far crueler than Sue Ann – in an 2007 episode. Watch a clip here.

• The Clueless Parody: For the 1996 MTV Movie Video Awards, White and Golden costars Estelle Getty and Rue McClanahan teamed up for this great short sketch that re-imagined them in the classic '90s comedy. (Watch the clip above.)

Watch the SAG Awards on Jan. 23, live on TNT and TBS at 8 p.m. ET/PT – and catch up on all the news and style from the show on PEOPLE.com!

BCFR 2009

Benton County Fair & Rodeo 2009
Seth and I went to the BCFR friday night with friends. We had a lot of fun and can't wait to go to the state fair the end of September with Steph & Brian.

Can you believe how short I look next to these 3?! or that pearl snap shirts are so popular?

Stephie & I in our matching shirts. We like to dress like twins, it confuses people since we look so much alike. : )

Seth was looking for the biggest ice cream scoops. . . this is what he got.

As you can probably tell he was not very happy with his choice in booth.

Our favorite stop was the goat barn.

I personally feel that the only pet better than a dog is a goat!

Something I didn't know was that Brian is also "the goat whisperer".

See what I mean! They flocked to him.

This here was my beloved funnel cake, the cake responsible for the party in my intestines that kept me up all night!! UGH! It was still worth it and I would do it again.

Belated Birthday!

Seth turned 25 on August 11th!
He wouldn't tell me what he wanted for dinner so I made him his favorite pizza. It's a little hard to tell from the picture but this dandy is covered in pepperoni, canadian bacon, bacon, black olives and lots and lots of cheese.
Typically I wouldn't typically submit his cardiovascular system to this kind of punishment but once a year can't hurt!

I also made him his favorite cake. . . .

It's also my favorite cake. . . .

It's very dense and very delicious.

The recipe is top secret. Now that your mouth is watering I will leave you to stare at it.

Armoire Makeover

I am sure you all remember the armoire I told you I bought a few weeks ago..

Yes you remember the one, faux light pine that matches nothing in my house!.

The one you thought I was totally crazy for buying!

Yes this one!

I wanted because it was the only actual computer armoire I found.

The first thing I did was to break it down.

This would be necessary to get it inside aswell..

The very next thing I did was remove the top so I could get that awful wood design off the top. I really wanted it to have clean lines.

Then I started sanding (the rougher the sand paper the better.

I used 80 grit sand paper on my electric sander and hand sanded anywhere it couldn't get to.

It is very important during this part to sand until the surface is slightly rough
and starts to get white. .

Whenever painting faux wood you need to create a good surface for your primer to grab to.

After everything was all sanded I wiped down the entire surface with a dry towel to loosen the dust and followed this up with a tack cloth.

Now my surface was looking pretty sad and Seth was getting nervous.

I experimented with different primers decided on Zinsser Bulls Eye 123 primer sealer.

I found it adhered best if I applied a good thick coat and then let it dry overnight before applying a second coat.

After 2 coats of primer the armoire was ready for a little J-Ho style faux paint.

This basically consists of taking your choice of paint and applying it randomly over the entire surface.

This is then covered with your choice of top coat paint.

I used paint left over from the base boards.

Now this part is where a persons personal preference comes in. I wanted the armoire to have a lightly distressed look with out looking to staged. I prefer to sand off paint as opposed to some wax and wipe methods but this simply a matter of personal taste.

So I grabbed some left over worn down sandpaper and went to town sanding the surface where ever I felt it looked the best.

Viola! The finished product is just what I wanted! .

I am still working on the rest of the room and didn't want to reveal anything else; sorry for the close up. To better see the detail simply click on the picture below.

Yes it is missing the knobs. I haven't found the perfect ones yet.

For all you skeptics out there; yes it is possible to paint laminate/faux wood.

All you need is some coarse sand paper, good primer and patience.

Weekend Wrap Up Continued. . . .

Nie Nie made it outside this weekend and we made some progress. . . .
Progress is good,
The fact we may have another 365 days worth of sandblasting ahead of us is not.

Luckily we've yet to find any surprises. Most of the bad spot we knew would be there. Only time will tell the whole story, I hope it's a nice one!

Rose & Blanche have some house guests. As far as I know they don't have names.

I am going to call Stan & Miles.

I found a computer armoire on Craigslist this weekend. I have been looking for one for the living room for quite awhile. I am very tired of looking so I jumped on this when I found it.

It's about to undergo a total over haul!

The armoire is laminate wood, not solid like I had hoped to find. I am going to sand and prime it tomorrow then it's going to get a nice think coat of whhhhhite paint (yes the whhhhhite is intentional and if you knew my high school english teacher you would get this).

There is a humming bird who can't find his way out of my garage. He is very cute!

Since it was hot I decided to feed him.

Hopefully he will find his way out tonight. I would try to help him, but I am afraid he will have a bird heart attack.

Weekend Wrap up

We can cross 1 thing off the todo list! Nie Nie's wheels are done!
Can you believe how great they turned out?

Priest Lake

Priest Lake
August 2009
We made an futile attempt to escape the Tri Cities
heat this weekend with a trip to Idaho.
It sure wasn't as cool as we would have liked it to have been but
it was beautiful!

This is proof for all you haters out there; this princess can go without a shower and carry a pack.

The main event of the trip was the natural granite water slides.

Due to my unfortunate track record with nasty injuries I decided to abstain from the festivities.

Now pay close attention, you are about to see a rare sight. This event happens only once in a lifetime and is almost never caught on camera.

I will warn you, if you have sunglasses nearby put them on.

Yes there it is! Twilight himself in the sunshine with no shirt on!
